There have been a couple of reports of brown/discoloured water following the power cut(s) during the night – we’ve spoken to the tank people, who say that it sometimes happens after a sudden restart, if you can run the taps it will flush through. It’s not toxic but sediment in the pipes. The more people who run water the faster it will run through, but it’s recommended to boil drinking water for a couple of hours while this happens.

We are speaking to the elec company about why this happened and looking into ways to prevent it

The power cuts during the night were due to some work to a nearby substation – the power company had not expected NHL supply to be affected, or they would have sent notice (and apologised for the power disruptions). They have informed us that there is to be work done to the substation affecting NHL at the end of the month, and are sending through more details of times etc…we will get a notice out and speak to contractors about the affected systems when we have these details.
